I was talking to my friend the other day about how diddy ruins a lot of classic beats and this one came up. I was surprised he’d never heard of the biz or fat joe tracks, so I decided to make this little post about one of my favorite beats. All of these tracks are great! (except for the diddy one…)
[1989] Biz Markie – Check It Out
The Clown Prince tutors kids on the importance of being punctual and listening to your principal and teachers.
[1993] Fat Joe – Bad Bad Man
Fat Joe goes in pretty ruthless on this. One of the better cuts from “Represent”.
[1997] Jay Z – Where I’m From
A slick production of the classic beat. a dope Brooklyn reppin’ track.
not even going to consider the diddy + rick ross joint. ruined the beat.

Lots of good hip hop this weekend. Ill be playing the absinthe lounge with my good homies from fab deuce and vortexas. So the dudes from fab deuce walk into a bar and only real heads know who they are. haha those guys are all sick – if you’ve never been to a show with vtx or fbdce, this would be a great one to see. especially for dallas peeps.
Saturday I’m djing the P.O.S. / Astronautalis show over @ haileys. you can expect a good mixture of golden-era / gangsta rap / funky hip hop tunes from me, and hard hitting rap from some of the most talented MCs in the area. come say hi if you see me out! or blow up my twitter / facebook. (ive added a new little facebook badge on the right sidebar there)

Hey! tonight ill be djing an opening slot @ haileys club in denton right before Themselves / Eyedea + Abilities rock the show. DJ Abilities is one of my heroes – his early material, along with countless ISP / cut chemist / dj shadow / thud rumble etc releases were my inspiration for the hours and hours of time i spent just scratching the same “aaahhh / fffffreeshhh” samples over a looped break beat in my dorm. Probably annoyed the hell out of my hallmates…
I thought i wanted to be qbert so bad hahahaha. anyhow – times change, and like my mixing style – so has their sound. it almost is more in line with indie rock in some respects – and though i hate to compare it to Gym Class Heroes, one could certainly follow the lines there. Anyhow – I’m just excited to shake their hands and its really just a blessing and an honor to open for DJs i listened to on a loop as i fell asleep years back.
doors @ 9
on an unrelated note – heres a remix i made last night of Michael Jackson’s “Break of Dawn” off the Invincible album.

Tonight yeahdef.com is putting on the 8th edition of Aight Yo! – our monthly Hip Hop series @ Rubber Gloves in Denton TX. Rubber Gloves has graciously offered to hold the show absolutely free of charge for those above the legal drinking age, and only $2 for those under. A bargain.
Now i know there might be some of you who will question… Just what should I expect for my cover charge of FREE? Expect to perform! yes you! we are opening up the mic for all those who wish to lay down a verse or two. its a freestyle fellowship format event – battling, exhibitions, slam poetry, beatboxing – whatever! I have a huge library of the latest beats from the areas best producers, some of it never heard before.
Like what you are hearing? – tell someone to ‘lego’ the mic (hahah im retarded) and let the crowd know how ya feel…

this song really annoys me. so its like – if i remix it – it wont bother me any more, cause its mine? idk. Chalie boy – i look fly (yeahdef remix) by yeahdef
just a quick remix i cooked up this past weekend. im experimenting a bunch with LFO on low pass filters – kind of a “dubstep” sound. more tracks coming soon.

Its really been over 1/2 a year ive been trying to bring a steady hip hop show to denton. What can i say – its promising at least. We’ve got a decent pull, and especially tonight i think we could see our biggest crowd so far. With help from Dallas, Ft Worth and hometown dudes XeGesis and Vortexas, this lineup really holds it down on all fronts.
Always an all ages show – Always striving to deliver the dopest hip hop in the area. I hear Neighborhood Allstars will be performing with a full on live band for their set. What else is there to say – idk show up early and stay late. I’ll be djing the whole thing with some crispy selections spanning the entire timeline of hip hop.
In other news – I’ve recently confirmed some quality support slots on some shows with people I grew up listening to and it kinda feels weird to be in that position. IDK, its somewhere i never expected to be. I guess if you just do one thing that you love for a long time, its bound to get noticed. feels good man.

I took out ‘ye and drake’s verses cause they werent really all that great to me.
Em’s verse kills all the others.
IDK – i stole some benga drums and flipped them a lil different and added some wob bass.
its kinda fun

Salem has been one of those blogbusters that i think people liked just because they were wierd and it seemed like that did a bunch of drugs. probably do. idk – never really been a big fan, but i realized what it was missing.
GUCCI MANE + SALEM RULES
i remember the weekend that gucci mane got out of jail – some electro band that jason faries was playing with were going to be in hotlanta. he had brought them by to haileys for our cut loose weekly and i was trying to explain how awesome it would be if they could make it to the free gucci mane show. there were french or something and didnt really understand i dont think.
these tracks work so well for some reason.

Some previously unreleased Eminem songs surfaced and are dated to around 94-95.
m_m__eminem__and_proof_hammer_vs_vanilla__bassmint_suckerin_rhyme_
in this track he basically just attacks MC Hammer and Vanilla Ice to a weird jittery beat.
hahahaha its pretty ridiculous – reminds me of some old freestyles me and my friend chas and aaron would have.

So – these things are usually on the second friday – but someone had a hold on that date for a long time, so we moved it to tuesday! Don’t fret – if you were worried about being able to get your OPS ESPONJA dj fix on his thursday “Heaven” residency – he’ll be playing here tonight anyway! I have a lot of fun with these hip hop gigs, and the crowds have consistently surprised me. some denton heads have come out of the wood work and are surely making themselves seen.
The summer is almost over – i urge denton to get out of their ‘noise-folk’ stupor and listen to some music that seriously hits hard – quite literally in this case, b/c The Listener Project is an in-your-face rhyme duo who inflict blunt trauma on washing machines to create their raw sound. reminds me of a backwoods astronautalis – who is also playing tonight in dallas with his new combo MAXX MOON with Picnictyme (i was offered dj duties for this gig but had to decline… :( schwa will kill it in my stead).
also on deck is newbie to teh DFW scene CS RUCKER – who has made a decent amount of noise with Key City Crew from west texas. he just dropped a mixtape and it sounds real good to me – ill prolly have him out again if things go nicely.
last but definitely not least – Juicy the Emissary is a Denton staple. the dude is honestly the most talented mc/producer in the area – hands down. he usually rides through pretty deep so expect some guest spots from his homies.
Ill be djing as well in and out throughout the night.
PAYCE!
